Read this if you don’t know how to start your business
This might be the sign you've been waiting for.
Entrepreneurship is a way of life.
It's hard and risky if that's what you decide to make it. It’s not just about making a living and earning money. It’s about learning to make it a part of your life, without being miserable.
Don’t just create a life that revolves around your business.
Design a business that revolves around your life.
It’s not your fault that you don’t know where to start.
It’s not your fault that you have no idea what you’re doing, or that you can’t figure it out.
But there’s something you need to remind yourself whenever you question everything:
Wanting to start gives you an advantage over the rest.
Most people will just accept things as they are. They will never have the courage to start a business. They are afraid to question what society laid out for them. They will think of their College degree as something that defines them — and they will stick to that self-image.
But you are different than them — you want change even when it’s not easy.
Nobody taught you how to do this, you don’t have a degree, and you might not even have the skill.
Pat yourself in the back for having the courage grow.
Not everybody is willing to bet on themselves.
Everything is a chicken-and-egg dilemma if you haven’t started.
Rumi once said,
As you start to walk the way, the way appears.
Inaction leads to confusion.
When you're first learning how to ride a bike, all you want is for you to learn how to balance. And you will keep thinking how to do this -- is it the way you sit? How to hold onto the handlebar? Maybe you need to pedal more slowly? But none of these matter if you're not moving. You have to get the bike moving. And when you do, the rest of your movement flows smoothly. You'll learn how to adjust accordingly.
Whenever you’re confused or overwhelmed, there is a chance you don’t need an answer.
You don’t need to do the right thing. You just need to start taking action.
You do this by picking a starting point, even if it’s the wrong one.
I have been building my online business for three years now. I have to admit that I still have no idea what I’m doing. Yet, I’m somehow learning how to navigate and I'm slowly seeing results.
I didn’t know whether I should build an audience first, ship a product, or build a portfolio. It seems like they are all linked together. Because how do I build an audience if I don’t have a lead magnet? Or how will people download my lead magnet if I haven’t been posting content and building my audience? I didn’t know what to focus on. I had limited time and couldn’t do all of them.
But I started with building my portfolio on Medium. This helped me develop a daily writing habit. Then I started growing my audience to 14k+. Now I’m using what I learned to build digital products.
I didn’t know all of this before. I just went with the flow and started studying what works.
Building a business is not a linear approach.
You will overthink and question everything but that’s okay. Do it anyway.
Your goal is to help someone, not to advance yourself.
I believe that we establish a Life Force by looking forward to the future with joy and anticipation, when we expect to enjoy tomorrow, and above all, when we have something important (to us) to do and somewhere to go.
Building a business is in itself a fulfilling journey. You can’t build one without building yourself. You’ll learn new skills. You’ll develop discipline. You’ll build new habits. It’s safe to say it transforms you into a completely different person.
You will advance yourself whether you like it or not. So you shouldn’t even worry about it.
Worry about making an impact.
It still blows my mind what you can do on the internet these days. It gives you access to almost anyone. It's crazy how much impact you can make in one person's life. If there is one kid in high school who reads your post on how to do something, he’ll always remember what you taught them. You opened their eyes to doing the thing. You influenced them. You taught them that there’s another way of doing things.
By posting on the internet, you reach more people. By building solutions to their problem, you change more people’s lives.
Become useful to the world and everything becomes easy.
You can make money fast.
You can make money unethically
You can make cheap money.
But you’ll miss the point.
Building a business will not change your life because it changed your own life, your life will change the moment you change someone else’s.
Get comfortable feeling stupid
Most of your ideas will be stupid, but you only need a few good ideas to get going.
The best part? People will forget about your stupid ideas. Yes, they will judge you. They will ridicule you. They will disagree with you.
But guess what? They are too busy to focus on you.
Stop taking things personally. People are only stating their opinions.
You get to have a do-over every time.
Get your ideas out there until you find the one that resonates with others.
Please don’t give up too soon.
Whenever you’re tempted to give up, do it one more day.
Give it one more chance. Wait a little bit longer. It could be the one more thing you need to endure before getting everything.
What if there is a good life waiting for you, what if you just need to suck it all up before facing the other side, what if the life you’ve been dreaming about could be yours in a few years?
But you chose to give up. You chose to sleep. You chose to delay it. You chose to give up entirely.
If you want this bad enough, don’t give up.
Work hard.
Work smart.
Then forget about the “results”.
Do what you gotta do and watch everything work out.
That’s all for today, my friends!
